Guest Cottage Helps Make Memories Last A Lifetime

The Little House Country Victorian Guest Cottage in Fitzwilliam, NH was restored by Andrew and Sherri Walters from a condition that would have most people running the other way. After a lot of dreaming, planning, thought and just plain hard work, they now have a fairytale cottage that they enjoy sharing with others. One visitor to The Little House exclaimed, "Oh, I keep expecting to see Goldilocks coming down the path!”

Lovingly Restored

The original building had no plumbing or electric but there were bits of flowery wall paper clinging to the walls. Sherri remembers the first day they had lunch in their "cottage." They had spent weeks removing boxes of junk, rickety furniture and years of caked on dirt. She had placed a little round table and two chairs in front of the “kitchen” window. (Remember, no plumbing or electric.) A new red-checked gingham valance hung at the window. Andrew and Sherri ate their lunch daydreaming of their first guests. They imagined a year or so of hard work and then all their dreams would come true. They made endless trips to the local lumber yard. They traveled to a nearby town to scavenge used slate for the roof. It took four years from their first lunch date. Since then they have shared their cottage with folks from across the States and look forward to sharing their cottage with you.

Step Back In Time

The Walters have taken The Little House back in time to the 1920’s. The kitchen is equipped with a deep farmer's sink, a monitor top refrigerator, and a restored Glenwood gas stove. If you choose a full breakfast, the kitchen is stocked with all the ingredients necessary to make a scrumptious breakfast. At your request, Sherri will come down to the Little House Kitchen and cook for you. Enjoy a fruit puff pancake-a Little House specialty.

The sitting room boasts a Rumford fireplace built by a New Hampshire craftsman. With an endless supply of firewood, sitting fireside is a favorite Little House activity. Second only to sitting by the fire is enjoying a bubble bath in the claw-foot tub. Bubbles are always included. The wrap around porch with porch swing invites you to slow down and enjoy the flowers in the private garden.

In all seasons of the year The Little House has welcomed couples as they start their lives together. Their crescent moon garden has even been blessed to hold a lovely private wedding. The couple was greeted with flower petals scattered along the walkway.

A Truly Private Getaway
